John Bright

Owner/TRAINER

My name is John Bright. Born in Chicago and raised in Minneapolis, MN, I currently reside in Fargo, ND with my lovely wife Laura and our three wonderful kids. Basketball has been my passion since the 5th grade, and I've been playing this game for over 20 years. My love for basketball has evolved into a desire to help kids reach their full potential on the court.

At Rise Up Basketball Training, I'm dedicated to sharing my knowledge and expertise with young athletes, empowering them to become the best players they can be. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to refine their skills, I'm committed to helping them develop into well-rounded players.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any inquiries about Rise Up Basketball Training. I'm excited to work with your child and help them elevate their game to new heights!

Growing up in a basketball family from Chicago, Bright has spent a large portion of his life in gyms across the country, despite hockey being his favorite sport.

After relocating from Chicago to Minnesota in 1997, Bright's basketball journey began in the 5th grade when his mom expressed concerns about the high costs associated with hockey. Thus, his career as a basketball player commenced with the Minneapolis Hustlers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Over the span of 5 years with the program, they achieved remarkable success, winning over 100 games and clinching 3 championships before advancing to the AAU National Tournaments in Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Transitioning to high school, Bright joined Minneapolis North High School, where he quickly made a name for himself as a standout player. He earned recognition as a member of the Minnesota All-Conference and All-State teams, establishing himself as one of the top incoming freshmen in the conference in 2008. Notably, during his tenure at North, the program orchestrated one of the biggest comebacks in Twin Cities history, defeating the state's number two team, Wayzata, before advancing to the conference semi-finals and narrowly losing to Copper High.

After three successful seasons at North, Bright made the decision to transfer to Saint Bernard's Catholic High School in Saint Paul, known for its strong basketball program. In his lone season at St. Bernard's, he propelled the team to remarkable heights, securing 29 victories and a third-place finish in the state tournament, marking one of the best seasons in program history. Bright's individual achievements included earning a spot on the All-Metro Team, All-State Team, and receiving a nomination for the prestigious McDonald's All-American game.

In the summer of 2008, Bright accepted a scholarship at Division I (JUCO) Western Nebraska College in ScottsBluff. However, after one year, Bright's mother fell ill with COPD, prompting him to relocate closer to home to Minnesota State Tech in Fergus Falls. During his time at M-STATE, the Spartans experienced a resurgence, making it to their first state championship game in over a decade and securing over 25 wins, the best record in the past two seasons.
